Then I saw a beast coming up out of the sea. (Rev 13:1a)
Who is this beast? What is the purpose of its coming? What is the mystery of its number, 666? What is the secret behind its mark, which it will force upon humanity? Ever since the beginning of time, there has been a battle going on: “the struggle for the human race” between God and the devil. God wants humanity for eternal joy, but the devil seeks humanity for eternal destruction. The devil deceived man into sinning in the beginning, and sin brought condemnation to mankind.
God sent His only begotten Son to the world to destroy the work of sin and the punishment it brought, thereby establishing the work of salvation. The devil was not pleased with the establishment of salvation. For this reason, he is sending his own son and heir—the beast—into the world with the clear purpose of destroying the work of salvation. The beast is the expected alien, the evil one, who is coming to tempt the whole human race and bring as many as possible to destruction.
