On November 18, 1949, twenty-one striking workers at the British-owned Iva Valley coal mine, Enugu, were shot and killed in cold blood, with fifty-one of them left injured. To this day, there are those who claim that disembodied voices can be heard at the ruins left there, decrying that injustice.
When Kelechi, a geologist born in Nigeria and based in London, is assigned to investigate the revival of the defunct mine, he comes to Enugu town, plagued by demons of his own. What he finds are insights into a paranormal legend that has persisted over the ages and hidden beliefs that have lasted decades. As he encounters certain inexplicable forces, he finds himself needing to make choices that may either prove to be his salvation or spell a fate worse than death…
