Njideka

A few days after their marriage, Njideka’s husband, Obi, is conscripted into the army but fails to return home two years after the war ends and is taken for dead. Reluctantly, Njideka remarries. But while she is trying to settle down in her new home, a stranger brings a message from Obi. The unexpected reappearance of shell-shocked Obi threatens Njideka’s new marriage and sets off a series of events that she tries to handle the best way she can. Set in eastern Nigeria in the early days following the civil war, this novel captures the social subluxation that attended that tragic war.
