Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Marc Okunnu, Sr. grew up in Lagos and lived in Accra, Ghana after graduating from the University of Ghana, Legon where he obtained his BA (Hons) degree in Political Science. He commenced his engagement with Development in January 1973 when he was appointed Programme Specialist at USAID Ghana in Accra. From Development at the Ghana country level, he went on to serve in international health Development organisations and projects during his subsequent 40 years career, eventually focusing on organisational capacity development for sexual and reproductive health development. In various roles in mainly Anglophone Sub-Saharan Africa, he served with national, Africa regional, and global organisations, culminating in his peak position as Africa Regional Director of the International Planned Parenthood Federation. He retired in 2012 as Chief of Party of USAID Nigeria’s Targeted States High Impact Project and in 2016 as Chief Executive Officer of Management Strategies for Africa which he founded in 2000.
