The idea of writing a book on Mine ral Valuati on was not part of the origi nal
considerations of the Author - Dr. Alpha I. Odumodu when he took up the challenge of deve lopin g the course of study on Mineral Valuation as instructed by the National Universities Commission in their circular to all Departments of Estate Management in Nigerian Universities to introduce Mine ral Valuation in their curriculum. A Departmental Board Meeting, held to discuss the NUC's circular at the Department of Estate Manageme nt ESUT in 1995 mandated Alpha Odumodu to take up the gaumlet.
Who is Dr. Alpha Odumodu? A product of the Department of Estate Management University of Nigeria Enugu Campus graduated with Second Class Honours Upper Division in 19 74. As a student, Alpha Odu modu held the most prestig ious scholarship then in vogue - The German Academ ic
Exchange Scholarsh ip and was popu larly referred to as a German Scholar.
Since 1995, Alpha Odumodu - a Senior Lecturer at ESUT made several trips to Abuja to collect mate ria ls from the then Ministry of Solid Minerals Development. He took students on excursion to some of the few resuscitated Mining Industries. By making inquiries , he got information about some Estate Surveyors who had carried out mineral valuation for some Mineral Industrie s. He made the necessary request and had copies of the Valuation Reports forwarded to him. Apart from developing the course through serious research and teaching the students in ESUT, Alpha Odumodu who eventually did a Masters Degree in Estate Management between 2003 and 2006 based his study on Mine ral Valuation. As a matter of fact, the topic of his dissertation in his Masters Progralllllle was the challenges in the Valuation of Mineral Interests in Nigeria. In the year 2008, Alpha Odumod u was engaged by UNlZlK on sabbatical leave employment among the courses assigned to him to teach was Min eral Valuat ion which he handled for both 4th year students and students doing their M.Sc programme. lmerestingly some of the students ta ught by Alpha Odumodu at UNIZIK wrote on Mineral Valuati on topic for their Masters Degree dissertations.
Not done with Masters Degree, Alpha Odumodu who continued with his foray in Mine ral Valuation registered for his Ph.D programme in late 2007 and obta ined his Ph.D in 2012 in Esta te Management with Mineral Valuation option boldly written on the Certificate while doing the research. Dr. Odumodu spent a lot of money acquiring books from USA and the United Kingdom.
